Most of the work will take place behind the existing curb line, "thereby necessitating minimal disruptions to the existing roadway and traffic patterns during the construction," according to the township’s website. In addition to new lanes, all the existing signals and traffic lights will be replaced, as the current ones are "very old and replacement parts are difficult to come by," said Calamari. Once completed, the roadways will have three lanes in all four directions. The intersection project will widen the existing roadway and add traffic lanes. Mayor Peter Calamari said the intersection was on the township and county’s radar for "quite some time." The project is happening thanks to a shared service agreement with the county from 2019. Work on the intersection will take place from 7 a.m. Construction workers will begin work on Monday and expect to finish the project in January 2023. The intersection is located at the cross section of Washington Avenue and Pascack Road near the township’s fire department and not far from Exit 168 on the Garden State Parkway.
